AP traffic surges despite Trump legal row | Why Business Insider has cut 100+ staff
And how putting podcasts on Youtube can supercharge your revenue
Welcome to your latest round-up of US media news compiled somewhat presumptuously by Press Gazette from the UK.
We kick off with our latest top-50 US news websites ranking which shows AP News surviving the ire of your president rather well - it rose 44.5% year on year to 111 million visits in April, according to the latest data from Similarweb.
Two brands owned by The Arena Group were also among the two fastest-growing titles in our top 50. Men’s Journal rose 338% year on year to 23.5 million visits and sports news website Athlon Sports grew 144/7% to 40.7 million visits.
Arena Group reported £126m of revenue last year and moved into profit in the second half. It reported a $4m profit in the first quarter of this year.
I name 30 of the journalists who have been given their marching orders including many big hitters and senior writers.
I also chart the traffic decline over the last three years which has brought about such savage changes at the title.
And finally, I would like to assure you that you are in good company as a reader of Press Gazette. In fact, according to Similarweb data, we are more widely read than many American publishers covering the business of news (well all of them, apart from Poynter).
Have a great weekend when you get there!
